Remember that old adage of, “You don’t bring a knife to a gunfight?” Well, bringing a snake cable to unclog a commercial sewer line is similar to bringing a knife to a gunfight. So how should you prepare for a clogged commercial drainage system? Hydro-jetting is the best solution for both removing the blockage and cleaning the interior of the pipe. Wyman Plumbing & Mechanical has the latest information on this commercial pipe-cleaning trend.
Snaking vs. Hydro-Jetting
When it comes to commercial plumbing, using a snake cable just doesn’t cut the grime…literally. First, using a snaking cable is a slower process than hydro-jetting, and this process doesn’t eliminate all the residue on the sidewalls of the pipe. Instead, the plumbing snake just sort of drills a hole in the sludge, pushing some grime through, but eventually allowing the clog to be pushed down further in the line.
Hydro-jetting is the only true method to unclog and flush your lines. In fact, if you have tree roots penetrating your plumbing, this method will purge your sewer line of tree roots more effectively then pushing a herbicide down the drain. If you’re experiencing recurring plumbing problems, Wyman Plumbing & Mechanical suggest using hydro-jetting.
How Hydro-Jetting Works
Hydro-jetting uses two powerful forces–water and gravity–to flush out even the most stubborn sludge. Moreover, this eco-method acts likes a pressure washer to dislodge the sewer-trifecta of hair, toilet paper, and grime. The water pressure ranges between 4,000 – 5,000 psi (Pounds per Square Inch), which can roughly equate to approximately 12 – 20 gallons per minute. That’s a lot of water!
In order to visualize how the hydro-jetting tool works, think of a car wash. When the hose is pushing its way through the pipe, it’s acting like a high-pressure washer, removing all the debris in its way. As theĀ hose makes its way back to the surface, it continues to flush and clean the pipe, sort of like a spot-free rinse. When the process is over, your commercial draining system will be like new.
Preventative Care
Hydro-jetting is a two-for-one method for cleaning your commercial drainage system. First, hydro-jetting dislodges all the blockage in the pipe, completely cleaning the interior of your pipes. Secondly, the hydro-jetting tool scours the pipes on the way back, ridding the sidewalls of grease, scale, and other unwanted residues. Not only does this method clean, but it also provides preventative care.
Clogs often occur when there are residual layers of soap, grease, and any other sewage clinging to the walls of the pipe. Essentially, this grime acts like a magnet to the other types of particles that sail down your drain–i.e., food, hair, toilet paper, etc.,–snowballing into a dense clog. When your plumbing system is completely flushed of all blockage, it slows down build-up in the future. Therefore, hydro-jetting not only cleans, but is a preventative measure for future barriers.
